Atari 2600 Celebrates 30th Birthday This Month

via Game | Life by Susan Arendt on 10/2/07

Yellowdragon Break out the cake and the party hats, because the Atari 2600 turns 30 this month. Sure, you can fit every single game ever made for the system and the emulator needed to run them on your flash drive keychain, but the 2600 will forever have a place in our gaming hearts, just the same.

The Combat pack-in. The paddle controllers (Warlords!). The trick that got you the double shot in Space Invaders. The duck-esque dragons of Adventure. David Crane and the other upstarts at Activision. The Atari of old is long gone, but there are plenty of fond memories of the 2600 to go around. Now get out there and play some Pole Position or Chopper Command.

Happy 30th Birthday, Atari 2600! [Engadget]
