News > Bill Gates Either Way Ahead or REALLY Behind

June 4, 2007

In a recent conference, Bill Gates revealed his revolutionary new vision for gaming, but somehow it sounds very familiar:

Gates: ...as we get natural input, that will cause a change. … Software is doing vision and so, you know, imagine a game machine where you’re just going to pick up the bat and swing it or the tennis racket and swing it.

Interviewer 1: We have one of those.

Interviewer 2: Yeah. Wii.

Gates: No, that’s not it. You can’t pick up your tennis racket. And swing it. You can’t sit there with your friends and do those natural things...

Well..um...yeah you can, Bill.

To be fair, though, the Wii is not perfect, and video recognition would offer a better in-game representation of real-world movement.  Maybe for the next Xbox?
