News > Bill Seeks to Legalize Video Game Betting

June 9, 2007

Robert Wexler, a democratic member of the House of Representatives from Florida has proposed a bill that would make "games of skill" exempt from the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).  Even thought this is undoubtedly an effort to legalize online poker, it could also mean that competitive video games like Counter Strike and Starcraft would be eligible for some horserace-esque wagering.

It's unlikely that this bill will pass, though, because the UIGEA was initially established with online poker in mind.  COuld be interesting, though.
