News > Capcom Invading The West?

June 30, 2007

The videogame market is fairly large in the United States, so it's no wonder that Japanese publisher Capcom might want to focus some of its energy in this direction.

Speaking to shareholders, Capcom execs explained the recent structural rearrangements of the company, including the axing of individual studios Clover, Flagship and Studio 8.  In addition, it was made clear that Capcom has no interest in mergers any with Japanese companies, but is actively pursuing the acquisition of western businesses.

Company director and managing corporate officer Kazuhiko Abe also noted that Capcom would be allowing western subsidiaries to have more say on the content of the publisher's final products.  This  all hearkens back to the April 12th Gamer's Day event, where Capcom  stated that it was aiming to become a more globally-oriented company, catering just as much to the western market as the east.
