News > Dell Brings XP Back

April 22, 2007

Upon its release, Windows Vista automatically became the official operating system of Dell, Inc.  Dell immediately ceased offering Windows XP on new Desktops and Laptops - and customers didn't like it.

After hearing the responses of over 10,000 customers, Dell's "Ideas in Action" website had this to say:

April 19, 2007
DON'T ELIMINATE XP JUST YET
We heard you loud and clear on bringing the Windows XP option back to our Dell consumer PC offerings. Based on your feedback, the following Dell consumer systems with Windows XP are now immediately available on Dell.com:

  • Dell Inspiron: 1405, 1705, 1505, 1501
  • Dell Dimension: E520, E521

This is great news for people who aren't ready to make the switch to Vista yet, or for those looking to save a few bucks on an operating system that they most likely don't need.  Many people already have a perfectly good OS disk and are fully capable of installing it themselves.
