Those of you who read Jeremy Parish's thorough critique of the recently-released DS Opera Web Browser may recall that he found the experience somewhat disheartening.
"It's not very enjoyable. Using Opera on DS reminds me a great deal of using a 100 MHz system with 16 MB of RAM to browse the web in Netscape 2.0 with a 28.8 connection... which, actually, is pretty much what the DS offers."
Fortunately, there's a theoretical alternative in the works for DS users still hell-bent on surfing the web via their handhelds.
The browser in question is a homebrew affair known as Okiwi. Its creator -- a coder by the name of Pedro J. Est banez obviously has big plans for his DS hardware. Once finalized, Okiwi aims to support a wide array of common web-browsing functionality such as JavaScript, file upload support and proper display of Adobe .pdf files.
Sadly, Okiwi is still very much in the "work in progress" stage at the moment, so no downloading for you. Interested parties can keep themselves up to date on its progress over at the official development blog -- provided you read Spanish.
