News > EA Likes All Consoles

April 24, 2007

Or they just like money.

Gerhard Florin spoke with GameIndustry.biz, telling them that the price point of the Playstation 3 will only show a true effect two years after release.  He doesn't believe sales will be hurt by the seemingly exclusionary price tag.

"Look at the price in two years' time, and then you can say whether it's too high...Whether it's too high or not the consumer has to decide, but I don't think for the first year the price will be a problem which holds anything back," said Florin.

He also had kind words for both Microsoft and Nintendo, saying, "The first two years will clearly be an open race, everybody will do very well. I believe all three [consoles] are worth supporting in different ways."

EA has a strategy involving key releases on certain consoles, attempting to cater to the proper audience, as well as system capabilities.  This strategy is evidenced by Florin's statements:

"Something like Harry Potter is a very clear candidate to lead on the Wii."
"Shooters like Medal of Honor, Black, we will clearly concentrate on PlayStation 3 because we need Cell processor power."
"Then we've got more strategic, online-orientated games that we concentrate more on 360."

So EA has it all planned out, with releases across all consoles.  They will try to maximize profits, while still showing support to all three hardware manufacturers.  Cool with me, as long as they output quality titles.
