News > Final Fantasy 20 Year Anniversary Party

June 9, 2007

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Final Fantasy franchise.  The original game launched in 1987 on the Famicom in Japan, and since Square was on the verge of bankruptcy was to be Hironobu Sakaguchi's "final" game, with a "fantasy" setting.  It was a huge success, saved the company from closure, and spawned sequel after merciless sequel.

On June 26th of this year, Square Enix will be throwing a party for their 20-year-old cash cow in downtown San Francisco.  The event will take place at the Sony Playstation Store at the Metreon Center.  The first 100 in the door will score some exclusive FF merchandise, and everyone will be able to play the Final Fantasy remake for the PSP, as well as get a look at the revamped Final Fantasy II.

It should be a good time.
