You don't know who Max Hoberman is, but chances are you've experienced his efforts, as up until a few months ago he was the multiplayer design lead at Bungie Studios (he worked on Halo 2 and planned much of Halo 3), so he's largely responsible for all those late nights spent playing "one more round" while that English paper tried to write itself. He's since left Bungie to form Certain Affinity, an Austin, Texas-based studio still connected to Bungie.
Right now, Hoberman and his team of specialists are currently working on the new Halo 2 maps that will be released over Xbox Live next year. "I can't really say much about the new maps. Sorry, that's Bungie policy. We've been playtesting them a ton though and they're damn fun. My team is still learning the tools, but they're experienced artists and designers and I'm confident that the maps are going to be hugely popular," he said in Bungie's weekly update.
Certain Affinity isn't a Bungie spin-off or a Microsoft-born studio, however -- they're all on their own. Instead, following the completion of the Halo 2 maps, Creative Affinity will be dipping into secrecy and continue work on a game of their own. How much you want to be it's a shooter? "The group of developers I've put together is amazingly experienced and capable, and I'm psyched about where we're going," said Hoberman.
