News > Iwata Thinks Wii Could Outsell PS2

July 16, 2007

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata thinks that the widely accessible and wildly popular Wii system has the potential to break the world record for videogame console sales.  In a recent interview, he stated:

"Sony's PS2 sales of 100 million units is an extraordinary number that our home game console business has not achieved. But if we can make our bid to expand the gaming population a continued success, we could exceed that."

The Playstation 2 has now sold upwards of 120 million units, making it the best-selling console of all time.  If the Wii could ever meet that mark, then maybe the casual market industry really is the new focus of the industry.
