News > Ken Kutaragi Steps Down

June 20, 2007

The man that brought you the original Playstation and then followed it up with more than a decade solid of batshit insane public statements is finally finished.

Ken Kutaragi, 56, retired as Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s chairman and group chief executive, the gaming unit said Tuesday. The unit is now headed by Kazuo Hirai, SCE's former president and chief operating officer.

The Playstation and the Playstation 2 drastically changed the game console market, but Sony has faced a lot of criticism surrounding some of the decisions made with the PS3. Now it's Kaz's turn to step up to the plate and try to turn things around.
