News > Manhunt 2 Rated Adults Only

June 20, 2007

The ESRB has completed their review of Manhunt 2 and given it a rating of Adults Only, meaning many retail stores won't be carrying the game unless Take Two succeeds in getting the rating changed.

This is why rating systems are a slippery slope. Of course, it's positive to have a system in place to educate consumers, but when retail chains won't carry a game rated A-O or a movie rated NC-17, the rating body begins to be able to exert significant pressure on producers of content, and the agenda of that rating body can start to influence how it uses that pressure, as in the case of the MPAA and movie ratings.
