News > Mario Kart Wii Announced. Wii Wheel Revealed

July 11, 2007

Is this an answer to all our prayers? Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Amie has announced that Mario Kart for the Wii will be coming to gamers in the first quarter of 2008.  It will be the first Mario Kart for a home console to take the race online, and is expected to step everything up a notch from the recent Mario Kart DS.

This time around, battle mode will make its way online, to compliment the racing action.  Reggie also hinted that there will be a vast number of racers available - more than ever before.  Judging from the video, the game seems to be progressing nicely, with a cool variety of karts and what appears to be fast-paced racing (nightmares of the slow-as-molasses Double Dash haunt me to this day).

A final bonus revealed to the Santa Monica audience is that alongside Mario Kart, Nintendo will be releasing the Wii Wheel - yet another Wii-mote housing peripheral.  This one is shaped, you guessed it...like a wheel.

Reggie models it so beautifully, too:
