News > MGS4 Conjecture Squashed

July 11, 2007

Late last night, after the comments made by Konami's Kazumi Kitaue really had a chance to settle in, details surfaced that Metal Gear Solid 4 would indeed be headed to the Xbox 360.   The information came from a so-called "press release" and has turned out to be completely false.

The claim that the 360, NOT THE PS3, would have limited exclusivity, and would get the game FIRST. Most sources expected things to be the other way around.  To quote the foolish text:

"Guns of the Patriots will release for the Xbox 360 game console in Q1 2008. The game will release for PlayStation 3 game console soon after, pending the conclusion of a limited exclusivity agreement with Microsoft Corporation (Microsoft). Through joint effort with Microsoft, Konami will bring Xbox 360 gamers exclusive online game content and gameplay modes through the Xbox Live service..."

Tis flies in the face of everything we already know about the title's release, and is most certainly untrue.  Ask Konami and they'll let you know the deal - no such announcement has been made.  Also, Peter Moore and the gang at Microsoft made absolutely no reference to the game during their pre-E3 press conference.  I think they might've mentioned something about it.
