News > New PSP Firmware Hacked

July 18, 2007

For those in the know, the PSP homebrew scene was recently transformed by the departure of everybody's favorite firmware cracker, DarkAlex. However, a Russian group called M33 has stepped up to attempt to customize the latest PSP firmware release.

In M33's initial release, the main functions of the 3.51 firmware were all in place, although there are a few minor bugs at the moment, mostly having to do with custom icons and wallpapers. Further, in a recent patch release M33 also unlocked the no-umd functionality that Sony had added to the firmware. This means that users of the firmware will have the ability to launch, theoretically, 100% of all game iso's off of their memory stick. That's pretty damn sweet.
