News > One MMO to Rule Them All

July 4, 2007

No, it isn't the Lord of the Rings MMO this time. It's the Metacrasher Project, an ambitious little effort to bind all virtual worlds together into one massive 3d realm via, eventually, a full virtual world network with portals to all the other realms. Along the way, the Metacrasher people will be putting out a magazine and establishing peer to peer networks to exchange 3d-authoring tools and resources.

While this appears to be the right idea, imagine how much simpler and more awesome things would be if all MMOs shared a compatible character system that allowed you to catch a griffon from Thunder Bluff and land in Rivendell, it's not clear what sort of resources the people or person behind the Metacrasher Project possess. The first issue of the magazine isn't out yet, the forums don't exist, and the contact info points to Yahoo e-mail addresses. Time will tell.
