News > Online bundles cause internet meltdown

If you're like me, camping in the cold for several days sounded like an absurdly stupid idea, lure of eBay auctions or not. If a PlayStation 3 was going to end up in my lap, I wasn't moving from my desk. This morning, a series of bundles went online at Costco, Toys "R" Us and Circuit City -- and all three websites have been experiencing massive technical difficulties as people mash feverishly on their F5 keys.
Costco's bundle, which requires you signing up for a $50 membership to access, was the most reasonable of the bunch, costing $699.99 for the 60GB model with an extra controller and a copy of Genji. You'd actually saving money with that deal, except that no one's been able to muddle through Costco's check out and actually buy one.
You wouldn't have much luck at Toys "R" Us, either, as their "sports pack bundle," which included six sports launch games alongside a 60GB model, sold out immediately in spite of its $999.92 price tag. Yikes.
And as if we needed to tell you, the Circuit City bundle, featuring three games and whose price is currently not listed, is also sold out.
Sorry, kids, if you don't have access to a mountain of cash for eBay, it's time to start waiting for the second shipment.
