News > Original Games On Wii Shop Channel

June 27, 2007

The idea of original content coming to Nintendo's download service has been in discussion ever since the inception of the Virtual Console.  Now, it appears the implementation of an original games initiative is set to hit the Wii Shop channel, much like Xbox Live Arcade.

The original games will not be a part of the Virtual Console, but instead will be included in WiiWare - the other half of the Wii Shop Channel.  Gamers will be able to download these original titles in exchange for Wii points, just like the existing Virtual Console sytem.  As an added bonus, Nintendo is opening WiiWare to game designers of all types - from huge publishers such as SEGA and Capcom, right down to the smallest indie developer.

For these games, Nintendo will determine appropriate pricing on a per-game basis, and will welcome all games rated M and tamer.
