News > Pirates of the Canadian

May 2, 2007

According to U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab, Canada hs been added to a priority watch list enumerating countries that fail to meet U.S. standards in protecting intellectual property.

Up until now, Canada was on a lower-level list.  This bump follows complaints by the Internationally Intellectual Property Alliance that mod chips are legal in Canada.

It's unclear what exactly is done with this pirate list, but if it means the U.S. is playing "world trooper," I wouldn' be surprised.
