News > PS3 Firmware Version 1.9 Hits Japan

July 23, 2007

It looks like it's time for yet another PS3 firmware update, and this one looks to be a fairly useful one. Ejecting disks is a great feature for the lazy bum inside of us all, and adding backgrounds to the XMB will add a little spice to your gaming life.  Changing video settings sounds great, and the general customization of things is always a plus. Nice update, Sony.

Here's a rundown of all the new features:

• Ability to rearrange games on the XMB
• Option menu now includes "eject disk"
• Press triangle to eject games/CDs/movies in the XMB
• XMB backgrounds
• Change the folder classification
• Emoticons
• Change CD output to 44.1/88.2/176.4kHz
• Force 24Hz output for Blu-ray over HDMI
• Change PS3 video settings in-game
• "Bit Mapping" in the "Music Setting"
• Save AVCHD type animations from a Memory Stick
• Change settings like upscaling while playing PS and PS2 games
• Add bookmarks
• Web browser security function in the browser's tool section
• Avatar moves during audio visual chat
Japan is already privileged enough to have access to this firmware revision, and Europe is getting it tomorrow.  As for the U.S.... "Soon."
