News > PS3 Price Drop Confirmed

July 9, 2007

Apparently, Sony's outright denial of a plan to cut the price of the Playstation 3 was not entirely true. Actually, it was a blatant lie. Effective immediately, the 60GB PS3 will be sold for $499, confirming last week's speculation surrounding Circuit City's advertising materials and other retail outlets' claims.

Additionally, Sony has announced that the 80GB PS3, previously released only in Korea, will be finding its way onto store shelves in the U.S. in August.  The new high-end model will take over the $599 price point, but will also come with a gratis copy of Evolution Studios' Motorstorm

According to Sony, this high-capacity PS3 is "designed to appeal to the online gaming and entertainment enthusiast, providing ample storage space to download more games and other entertainment content from PlayStation Network."
