News > Rockstar to Appeal Manhunt 2 UK Ban

June 23, 2007

As previously reported by GameWad, the British Board of Film Classification has refused to rate Manhunt 2, effectively banning the game from the United Kingdom.

The BBFC described the Manhunt 2 as being "distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing."

Soon after this news, the ESRB rated the game "Adults Only" (AO) in the U.S., prompting both Nintendo and Sony to reject the game from releasing on their respective consoles.

The BBFC has offered Rockstar the opportunity to appeal their decision within six weeks, and although the company's official word is that it is "considering all its options," sources say that there will indeed be an appeal, and that Rockstar believes the game could find its way onto store shelves in six weeks' time.
