(DS, PSP) Hands-On Preview

July 1, 2007

To a professed language nerd like myself, Spelling Challenges possess a natural appeal. The DS version I got my hands on sent me on a number of different challenges of the spelling variety, such as spelling a word flashed briefly on-screen, guided by the definition, or choosing the incorrectly spelled word from a group of correct ones. As players progress, the game promises to increase in difficulty level, presumably presenting the player with increasingly difficult words and challenges.

The DS and PSP versions will vary in a number of ways beyond the resolution difference. For instance, rather than flashing a word on-screen in the challenge I tried, the PSP version will say the word out loud, making things a little bit more difficult. Alternatively, the DS version made great use of the touch screen, allowing me to assemble words by directly touching letters.

Aspiring spelling masters can expect to play Spelling Challenges and More! later this month.
