News > Steven Spielberg Making Games

July 10, 2007

It's been awhile, but Steven Spielberg is getting back into games and partnering up with EA in the process. When's the last time Spielberg was attached to a game in even a completely tangential way, you ask? Why, the original ET for the Atari 2600, of course.

The new games that Spielberg is working on with EA include titles for all the consoles and the PC. One of the Wii titles in the works promises to "include challenges for both single player, co-op, and versus multiplayer, and will let Wii players build both games and structures, or use the remote as a destructive tool to bring the structures crashing down." There has also been mention of games focusing on story-telling, which I would assume to be Spielberg's strong point.

Kind of cool to have somebody from the movie medium come over to our side. Perhaps Spielberg will do something to lend authority to videogames as a legitimate art form. Let's just hope he doesn't cause the whole industry to crash again.
