News > THQ Abandoning Multiplatform Releases

April 18, 2007

Brian Farrell, president of THQ, has announced a new strategy for his company.  No longer will THQ attempt to release a single game across every single platform available, but will focus on making games tailored to specific platforms and their audiences.  Farrell recently had this to say:

"In the past, a lot of publishers -- including us -- would say, 'Okay, let's make a game and get it across every system.' That's not our strategy going forward; there are going to be different gamers for the different systems. So our strategy is different types of content, segmented on who the users of the systems are."

So is this good news or bad news?  Arguments can be made for both standpoints, but only time will tell if this is a positive step for the company.
