News > Ubi Going Soft?
May 22, 2007
In an announcement yesterday, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said, “The timing is right for us to leverage our creativity and to open up the video games market to new consumers who will be attracted by content that can help them learn, grow and feel better in an entertaining way.” This statement refers to one of a few new projects in the works at the company's internally restructured casual games studio.
The product will be called My Coach, and will be a series that focuses on offering guidance to gamers its users. My Word Coach will be the first in the series, and will arrive on the Wii and DS this fall. My Life Coach will follow for the DS this holiday season. Developed with advisement from behaviorists, the game is described as “a personal coach that gives anybody concerned about their well being the willpower they need to change their habits the way they want in a motivating and fun way.” Whoa.
The other project in the works is the expansion of the Petz franchise - a Nintendogs-esque group of software, allowing players to raise and play with animals. Plans for this series are currently aimed at the Wii.
Oh, Ubisoft, please don't abandon us in favor of the casual games market.
