News > Unreal Engine 3, Mods Brought To PS3

July 12, 2007

During their press conference yesterday, Sony revealed a multi-stage agreement with Midway and Epic Games that would land Unreal Tournament 3 exclusively on the PS3 later this year.

Additionally, the Unreal Engine 3 is being specially optimized for the PS3, and will be used in many games on the console.  This optimization will do more than just allow games to be created and ported easily, though.  It will allow a HUGE part of PC gaming to be brought to the console arena - user-created mods.

That's a pretty big advance in gaming right there, and huge news for a lot of gamers.

I hope the ESRB was sleeping during that announcement, though...
