Microsoft was kind enough to send me a press release today quietly informing me that their Xbox Live service has reached the 4 million member mark. And, not one to be bashful, they felt it necessary to point out that they now have “a 4 year and a 4 million member head start in the next generation.” Oh Microsoft, you’re so coy. Here are some other fun facts that Bill Gates wants you to know:
• Microsoft is preparing to launch the 6th version of the Xbox Live network this fall.
• Gamers downloaded over 70 million pieces of gaming and entertainment content from Xbox Live Marketplace in just the first 11 months of launch.
• More than 70 percent of connected Xbox 360 consoles are downloading content from Xbox Live Marketplace
• Xbox Live Arcade has now surpassed 12 million downloads in less than a year.
• Xbox Live Arcade games average a phenomenal 24 percent trial-to-purchase conversion rate with #1 title UNO reaching a trial-to-purchase conversion rate of over 50 percent.
I’d tell you more of what they tried to push, but it’s just boring. It’s going to be interesting to see how Sony and Nintendo plan to really compete with Xbox Live which has such a strong foundation over them.
