The release of Beta 2.0 of XNA Game Studio Express, Microsoft’s proprietary Integrated development environment (IDE for short) for homebrew/independent developers.

Microsoft released the second major iteration of its XNA Game Studio Express beta today. This updgrage includes full functionality for for third party toolsets and Windows. This includes support for modeling programs like Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya and Softimage Xsi.

In related news, GameDaily also reports that GarageGames, ex-Dynamix people, responsible for the Tribes and Starsiege games, have also released Torque X, which basically expands and simplifies the functionality of XNA even further. And as I understand it, the Torque engine, a modified version of the engine used in the original Tribes game, is a fairly heralded piece of software.

OK, screw the console wars, who’s going to win the Indy war, all 3 consoles support homebrewers in one way or another, but so far, the 360 is miles ahead…
